Terms and conditions
These terms cover this website, the free samples, the API and MCP server, and anything bought from Certvas. Where a product has its own licence, that licence wins over anything here.
Last updated 23 September 2026.
1. Who you are dealing with
Certvas is Certvas Proprietary Limited (UIN BW00009989695), a company incorporated in Botswana on 17 September 2026 under the Companies Act CAP 42:01. The company is the contracting party, and the liability of its members is limited. Contact: [email protected]. We say this plainly because a buyer’s procurement process asks it before anything is signed — and until 17 September 2026 the answer was different: Certvas was an unincorporated sole proprietorship and the contracting party was a natural person.
2. What you may do with the data
Each product carries its own licence, stated on its page and in its data contract. In general: a dataset licence is for use inside your organisation, and redistribution — publishing our records, or building a product that hands them on — needs an Enterprise licence that says so in writing. If you are unsure whether what you intend is covered, ask before you build; the answer is usually yes and always cheaper before the fact.
Free samples are for evaluation and may be used to check whether the data is what you need. They carry the same no-redistribution rule unless their own page says otherwise.
Reselling, white-labelling or building the data into your own product needs a written reseller, white-label or embedding licence. Every such licence is non-exclusive, names Certvas as the licensor, and keeps each source’s attribution on the data, whatever brand your customers see. Only products whose every source is cleared for redistribution in the Licence Register can be licensed this way.
The Certvas ID is free. The identifier, its record at certvas.com/id, its LEI and its listing ticker are open (CC0) and always will be. The crosswalk to other identifiers — national registry numbers and other schemes — is part of the paid API.
3. Where the data comes from
Records are extracted from primary sources — company filings, procurement portals, and published statistical series. Every source and the terms it is held under are listed in the public Licence Register, and an ingestion gate refuses any source not cleared for commercial redistribution. The Register, not this page, is the authority on any individual source.
4. What we do not claim
Figures are reported as the source published them. Nothing is estimated, interpolated or back-filled: where a value is unknown it is absent rather than guessed. We check what we publish, and we still expect to be wrong sometimes — extraction from documents is not a solved problem.
So the data is provided as is. It is not investment advice, not a credit opinion, and not a substitute for reading the filing. If you find a figure that disagrees with its source, tell us: corrections are published as new vintages rather than overwriting history, and we would rather hear it than not.
5. No personal data
No Certvas product contains natural-person data, and that is enforced by a check in the build rather than by policy. The only personal data we hold is the contact information you give us. See the privacy policy.
6. Using the API
API keys are issued per customer and should be treated as a credential: do not share one, publish one, or embed one in a public client. Requests are rate-limited by plan, and we may throttle or suspend a key that is being used to evade those limits or to scrape bulk data outside its licence. Automated crawling of this site is governed by the machine-readable terms in robots.txt.
7. Payment, delivery and refunds
Purchases are processed by our checkout providers, whose own terms cover the payment itself. Delivery is by download or by API access, normally immediately on payment.
Digital datasets cannot be returned, so the honest version of a refund policy is this: if a dataset is materially not what its page described, or you cannot access what you paid for, write to us and we will correct it or refund it. Ask within 30 days of purchase.
8. Availability
There is no uptime guarantee on free samples or on the free API tier. Current and historical availability is published at status, which is generated rather than hand-written, so it is honest about incidents nobody wrote up.
9. Liability
To the extent the law allows, our total liability arising from these terms or from your use of the data is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profit or loss arising from a decision taken on the data. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
10. Changes
We may change these terms. The date at the top changes with them, and a change that materially affects a paying customer will be sent to them by email rather than left here to be discovered.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of Botswana, and the courts of Botswana have jurisdiction.
